On February 18th, 2024, around 8:35 am, Coos County Dispatch received a report of a physical dispute taking place in the 91000 block of Cape Arago Highway. Deputies A. Churchill and B. Freerksen responded to investigate. Prior to Deputies arriving the involved parties were separated. Deputy Churchill spoke with the alleged victim and learned that the suspect, Jon Corby (51), had assaulted her during an argument by striking her in the back of her head with a closed fist. Deputy Freerksen located Mr. Corby in a vehicle behind Seaport RV. Deputies concluded their investigation and placed Mr. Corby under arrest for Assault in the 4th Degree and Menacing. Mr. Corby was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked, processed, and remains in custody.

On February 8th, 2024, at 9:31 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center took a 911 call from two campers who returned to their campsite to find a man inside their tent stealing numerous items. The campers confronted the man who fled from them on foot. Deputies S. Starr and H. Francis responded with Sgt. Slater & K9 Cena to attempt a criminal apprehension track for the suspect. After a two-mile-long track over sand dunes, Transpacific Hwy, a wood processing plant, and several pools of water, K9 Cena located John P. Corby (48) hiding in the sand dunes. Mr. Corby was arrested on Burglary I, Theft II, Identify Theft, and Criminal Trespass II charges. Mr. Corby was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked.

Coos County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a man after they say they caught him red-handed stealing from a 73-year-old woman's home. Deputies arrived on scene Saturday to find Jon Corby carrying a crate full of household goods off the property. He told deputies he had permission but the property owners said he did not and had never seen him before. Corby is in the Coos County Jail for burglary and theft charges.
