BANDON MAN ARRESTED AFTER FLEEING TRAFFIC STOP On Monday, October 2, 2023, just after midnight, a CBPD officer conducted a traffic stop on a truck on Highway 101 and Ivy Hills Rd. During the traffic stop, the officer believed the operator, later identified as Bryce Paul Butler, was impaired. The officer also learned Mr. Butler had an extraditable warrant out of San Diego County, California. The officer asked Butler to step out of the vehicle to perform field sobriety tests, but Mr. Butler fled the traffic stop at a high rate of speed southbound on Highway 101. Officers pursued Mr. Butler, but the pursuit was later ended due to safety concerns. Officers later learned that Mr. Butler’s charges out of California included assault with a firearm or deadly weapon, a person who willfully inflicts corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition upon the victim, a person who willfully threatens to commit a crime that will result in death or great bodily injury to another person, and false imprisonment or human trafficking. Officers discovered that Mr. Butler lived at a residence in the Bandon area. After confirming Mr. Butler was at the residence, a search warrant was applied for and granted. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called out to execute the search warrant. At approximately 8:30 p.m. on October 2, 2023, ERT executed the search warrant, and Mr. Butler was taken into custody. Mr. Butler was transported to the Coos County Jail and lodged on charges of Attempting to elude, Reckless driving, and the warrant out of California.
