Arrest made after extensive burglary investigation. On February 8th, 2023, Deputy R. Baker responded to a burglary report on Sitkum Lane, near Dora. Over the past few months, Deputy Baker has been diligently conducting a follow-up investigation and working on developing a suspect. After speaking with several residents in the area, Deputy Baker recently learned that the suspect involved in this burglary was James E. Belt (40) from Coquille. On April 6, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. Deputy J. Gray located Mr. Belt driving a vehicle on Sitkum Lane near Frona County Park. Deputy J. Gray conducted a traffic stop on Mr. Belt’s car after confirming with the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center that Mr. Belt’s driving status in Oregon was a suspended violation. Deputy Baker, who was working Timber Patrol, responded to the area to interview Mr. Belt about his ongoing burglary investigation. After the interview, Mr. Belt was arrested on unlawful use of a motor vehicle, burglary II, and theft II. Mr. Belt was additionally cited for driving while suspended, and Mast Brothers Towing towed his vehicle from the location. Mr. Belt was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and later released on his own recognizance. Case Number: S23-03036
