On February 21, 2018 at approximately 11:45 pm, the Coos County Sheriff Office and the Oregon State Police were assisting Coos Bay Police in attempting to locate a suspect in a robbery investigation. An Oregon State Police Trooper located a vehicle behind the Shake and Burger Restaurant in the Bunker Hill area of Coos Bay which was occupied by three people. A Coos County Deputy backed up the Trooper and spoke with the rear seat passenger, Justin M. Gray, who somewhat matched the description of the suspect in the Coos Bay investigation. During the deputies questioning Gra was confirmed to be on Probation. Mr. Gray consented to the deputy searching his backpack which could have concealed items from the robbery During the consent search of the backpack, the Deputy located two restricte weapons, knives which by law are not to be possessed by prior convicted felons. Additionally, during the search a small kit of suspected heroin and suspected methamphetamine, syringes and spoons were located. Mr. Gray was arrested by the deputy and charged with being a Felon in Possession of a Restricted Weapon (for the knives), and a Probation Violation.
