CCSO: On May 27th, 2023, around 06:30 am, Deputy H. Francis responded to a call for service to interview a possible victim of an assault on Grinnell Ln in Coos Bay. During the interview with the victim and other witnesses, Deputy Francis learned that the victim had been struck with a brick in the back of the head after a verbal dispute with an acquaintance, later identified as Nathanael Fleming. It was learned that Mr. Fleming had left the scene in a black SUV immediately after the attack. Deputy Z. Smith assisted Deputy Francis with investigating the location of Mr. Fleming. After completing his investigation on May 28th, 2023 around 09:45 am, Deputy Smith contacted Mr. Fleming. Deputy Smith took Mr. Fleming into custody without issue. Mr. Fleming was taken to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and lodged for Assault in the Second Degree, Unlawful use of a Weapon, and Criminal Trespass in the First Degree. Mr. Fleming is being held without bail pending his first court appearance.
