Kyle R. Cox (Owner of Edge Marine & Tarheel Aluminum of Charleston Oregon) used the social media platform Kik in October 2021 to transfer four images and two videos of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), including an image of bestiality, to a suspect in Pennsylvania. The files depicted children unrelated to Cox and were not produced by him. One transferred file included a clothed image of one of his own children. A lead from the Pennsylvania investigation led Oregon agents to contact Cox in March 2024 in the Coos Bay area. Cox voluntarily met with agents at the Coos Bay Police Department, was advised he was not in custody, and admitted to past communications about CSAM, possessing and transferring "bad" images for years, and that it had been about one year since he last viewed CSAM. He allowed a manual review of his phone, which revealed no CSAM. Cox claimed the transfers were in response to requests from an online romantic interest he believed to be a woman, who specifically asked for CSAM and bestiality images. He also admitted to discarding a phone into the sea. Cox pleaded guilty on July 30, 2025, to one count of Possession of Child Pornography in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2252A(5)(B). The government recommended a low-end sentence of 51 months' imprisonment, five years of supervised release, and a $100 assessment, citing his cooperation and acceptance of responsibility. Sentencing occurred on April 22, 2026, before Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai.
