Kenneth Leatherwood, wanted out of Texas on a felony warrant for child sex crimes as well as for a stolen vehicle and reported stolen weapons, was apprehended by Curry County authorities. On June 16 he had fled from law enforcement after it was learned he and the stolen vehicle were in the Agness area. On June 23 at approximately 12:35 p.m., two Curry County deputies, an Oregon State Police trooper, and six U.S. Marshals located him camping in a heavily wooded area near Lucas Lodge. He was taken into custody without incident. His dog was found in good condition and will be returned to his family. Agencies involved included the Oregon State Police SWAT team and the U.S. Marshals; thanks were also extended to the Agness community.
