On December 10th, 2023, around 9:45 pm, Deputy B. Freerksen was patrolling the Charleston area of Coos County when he observed a blue Ford F-250 run a stop sign next to Davey Jones Locker. The truck was turning onto Cape Arago Highway heading toward Coos Bay. Deputy Freerksen followed the vehicle and attempted to pull the driver over on Libby Lane near Crown Point Road using his emergency lights and siren. The driver, later identified as Lanie Denton (26), failed to stop and took Deputy Freerksen on a pursuit through a residential area in Barview going up to speeds of 50 MPH. The pursuit went through areas of Wallace Road, Caraway Lane, South Spring Road, Shell Lane, South Barview Road, Hollywood Lane, Travis Lane, Cape Arago Highway, Wilshire Lane, and Sand Dollar Lane. During the pursuit, Ms. Denton struck a parked vehicle and continued with her attempt to get away. The pursuit was ended safely by Deputy Freerksen after Ms. Denton tried to maneuver off of a property but failed to shift gears correctly. Deputy Freerksen blocked her in and ordered her out of the vehicle. Ms. Denton was arrested for Felony Elude, Hit and Run, and Reckless Driving. Additionally, Ms. Denton is on Felony Probation and her actions resulted in her Probation Officer issuing a hold for a Probation Violation. Ms. Denton was transported to the Coos County Jail where she remains in custody. A passenger, Justin Galindo fled on foot and got away.
