•••Manslaughter Conviction••• On October 4, 2024, Powers resident, Robert Turner McDaniel, age 40, pled guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree, one count of Burglary in the First Degree and thirteen counts of Theft in the First Degree. These charges were the result of incidents that occurred on October 13, 2023 that resulted in the death of Mearl McDaniel at the Rose City Mill. Mearl McDaniel was 82 years of age and was the grandfather of the defendant. On October 14, 2024, Robert Turner McDaniel was sentenced by the Honorable Martin Stone. On the Manslaughter charge, Mr. McDaniel was sentenced to 120 months in prison pursuant the Measure 11. On the burglary count, Mr. McDaniel was sentenced to 18 months in prison, consecutive to the manslaughter count. On each of the Theft in the First-Degree counts, the defendant was sentenced to 13 months in prison, consecutive to each other and consecutive to the manslaughter and burglary counts. This totals 307 months in prison. Mr. McDaniel will be placed in the custody of the Oregon Department of Corrections in the near future. -District Attorney R. Paul Frasier
