Jesse Nathan Hayes, a 34-year-old homeless man, was found dead behind a warehouse in Coos Bay early Sunday morning after police received a call about a possible murder around 3 a.m. An autopsy determined he was killed by a blow to the head and sustained heavy blows to his head, chest, back and limbs. Following a day-long investigation, Michael Lee Gertson, 31, was arrested at approximately 1:30 p.m. and Jesse Jack Longhenry, 46, was arrested at 6:30 p.m. Both men were booked into the Coos County Jail on murder charges. A third person of interest was identified but not arrested at that time.
