When officers attempted to contact Kile Elder and issue a citation, he released the dogs, pulled a crossbow on officers, and fled into the residence. This led to a standoff involving the Coos County Emergency Response Team, who used distraction bangs, drones, and verbal commands. After several hours, less-lethal rounds were deployed, and Elder came out and was taken into custody. He was arrested on multiple charges but later released from jail. No one was harmed.

Kile Elder, 28, was identified via game camera images as the suspect who allegedly cut through two gates and the side of a residence with a Sawzall to forcibly enter a victim's property on North Tenmile Lake. He allegedly stole multiple items. Investigation confirmed stolen goods at his Douglas County property and additional stolen property at a Hamilton Avenue home in North Bend where he was contacted and arrested with assistance from North Bend Police Department. He was transported to Coos County Jail on charges of first-degree burglary, theft, criminal mischief, and an outstanding warrant out of Lane County.

On April 24, 2024, a residence at North Ten Mile Lake was burglarized. The suspect forcibly entered by cutting through two gates and the side of the residence with a Sawzall, stealing various items. Game camera images identified Kile Elder, 28, and his vehicle as involved. Investigation by Coos County Sheriff's Office deputies, including Sergeant J. Clayburn and Deputy R. Baker, led to the discovery of stolen goods at Elder's property in Douglas County. Probable cause for arrest was established. On May 11, 2024, around 8:00 pm, Elder was located at a Hamilton Avenue address in North Bend. Sergeant Clayburn apprehended him, recovered additional stolen property, and arrested him for first-degree burglary, theft, criminal mischief, and an outstanding Lane County warrant. Elder was booked into the Coos County Jail.

A couple walking north across East 6th Avenue on the west side of Oak Street was struck by a Subaru Forester that rounded a corner. The driver left the scene without stopping. A bystander blocked traffic with his van and helped move one victim out of the traffic lane. Eugene Springfield Fire medics evaluated the two victims, a 49-year-old man and 51-year-old woman, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A patrol officer later spotted the vehicle near West 6th Avenue and Chambers Street, pulled over the driver, and arrested him. The driver was confrontational, resisted arrest, kicked the windows of the patrol vehicle, and threatened officers.
